Dermal Fillers Can Help You Hold Back the Years!

It is natural for our bodies to change with age. This means we need to be ready to expect a couple of wrinkles on our face, our skin to sag, and or bones to become frail. We usually take medicines to help our aging bones so that we can do our routine things.

However, what do we do about our wrinkles? Since our face is the first and only, thing most people see, they will be sure to mark all the wrinkles digging into our skin.

Our facial skin gets raided by wrinkles when some of the subcutaneous fat that supports our skin sheds off overtime.

This also leads to our skin, giving in to the pull of gravity and shifting downwards and sagging. All of these changes, albeit typical, are disturbing for most of us. The sudden change in our face can lead to a shift in self-identity, which can tough on a lot of us. But thanks to the advancement in science, we can take advantage of dermal fillers.

Fillers not only lift our face and add support to it, but they also help soften the wrinkles. There is so much that goes into selecting the right filler, which you would understand perfectly when consulting with your dermatologist, but here is a little overview that we can give you:

What are dermal fillers?

These are gel-like substances that help restore volume after being injected beneath the skin. Not only that, dermal fillers soften creases, boost facial contours, and smooth lines. However, you do need to keep in mind that they are not supposed to be confused with Botox. The latter reduces wrinkles by “freezing” the muscles, whereas dermal fillers are injectable implants that have been to help smooth wrinkles.

These are standard procedures that are cost-effective facial rejuvenation. There are different types of dermal fillers you can choose from, however:

Hyaluronic Acid

This is a naturally occurring substance already present in your skin; this makes it comfortable to use since you are not adding anything foreign to your body. They are also the most in-demand filler type on the market at the moment. This does not mean that it is suitable for every person and every condition but is excellent for those who want a hydrating solution the smooths the skin ad eradicates wrinkles and creases. There are types of HA as well; they are Juvederm, Restylane, and Belatero Balance.

Calcium Hydroxylapatite

This is also a natural substance found primarily within our bones. They are dissolved within a smooth gel and are usually microscopic. The FDA approved CaHA fillers are Radiesse.

Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA)

This is the first of artificially occurring fuller basis. This synthetic element is biodegradable and biocompatible, making it safe to inject into the body. The FDA approved type of PLLA is Sculptra Aesthetic.

Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA)

This is the second of our synthetic, body compatible filler bases. These will, however, not biodegrade since they are made up of microspheres. This means that they will remain forever once they are injected within the skin. The collagen is added to PMA to provide additional structure and firmness. The FDA approved PMMA filler is Bellafill.

How much do fillers cost?

We are going, to be honest with you; dermal fillers are not cheap. As disappointing as that is, it is true. Please do not go for a deal or any too-good-to-be-true- prices. The reason for all these warnings is that usually, people offering such low prices are diluting the filler and offering counterfeits, which can be disastrous to your skin. A good filler costs quite a bit; as of 2019, fillers were reported to cost $652.

How long do dermal fillers last?

The longevity of the results usually depends on the filler. The results range anywhere from 6 months to 5 years. The vast difference between the periods depends on the base used for the filler. The duration of the fillers will also depend on the amount used. Here is an estimate of the longevity of each type of filler:

  • Hyaluronic Acid: the results of this last somewhere from 6 to 12 months, maybe even a little longer before the body naturally and gradually absorbs the particles.
  • CaHA: these typically thicker gels will last around 12 months for most people
  • PLLA: since they are synthetic, they are known to last typically two years
  • PMMA: as we mentioned earlier, the microspheres will remain in your body for years, while the collagen naturally dissolves after five years.

At the doctors

Before you get fillers done, you always want to make sure you consult your doctor. They will give you a run-down of how to prepare your skin for filler, what to expect during the procedure, what to expect after the procedure, and how long it will last. You might need a combination of treatments to get that perfect younger-looking skin, which your dermatologist would recommend. While at the doctor's, it is best to ask them for before and after photos.
